Adding their own special twist and arrangement to well-known hits, WAT Da Funk! is a tight five-piece band with big sound with members who have developed a loyal following on the live music scene. The dance floor soon fills when Iskandar-lead vocals, Salim-lead guitar and back vocals, Azmi-bass and vocals, Shahferi-drums and back vocals and Kassim-keyboard, crank up the volume and bring on the funk.
PROFILE It stands and falls with a charismatic and very talented Lead Vocalist. With music in his veins inherited from his father, a popular singer in Singapore, Iskandar aka Is with no doubt is well respected in Singapore and the region. He won countless competitions in Asia. Best Album, Best Song, Best Singer 2004 and 2006 competition in Shanghai makes him the ultimate frontliner. His clear pitch and amazingly high voice guarantees for his fans to be satisfied with nearly any song they might request.
If you want a man who’s no stranger to a fret board and amp, look no further than Salim Wakija, who plays both electric and acoustic guitar. Salim has played around the region and in the US and is named the best guitar player in the region. He is one of a handful in Asia, if not the best to play the Flamenco guitar as well. He tours with superstars from China and the region and is regular invited to accompany Artists at The Esplanade. With his experience and professionalism he is also the band leader of WAT da Funk!
Adding to the great experience as a professional musician is none other than Shahferi on the Drums. Since 1988 he has played in Toronto, New York, Japan, Jakarta, Thailand, Hong Kong, Manchester UK and Singapore. With more than 18 years behind him in experience, this smooth drummer will captivate you with his own unique style of playing. Shahferi is also a member of the Percussive Arts Society.
Azmi, our talented and well respected bass player was awarded the title of Distinguished Award at the Yamaha’s Music Quest in 1992. Following this success, Azmi continues to pursue music with passion and professionalism. An entertainer by nature, his humble beginnings has brought him on tours across the region with other bands such as Krueger, Wendi Koh and Déjà vu and Energy. Azmi also gained popularity having played in Jakarta and South Africa. With his inclusion and strong vocals it completes the current sound of WAT Da Funk!
Kassim, on keyboard, has brought his much sought after experience to the band. Having played with various renowned bands in Singapore, he brings a burst of new life to every songs with his unique style! In the band he has his recognition as Mr. Cool!
